Forest Investment Veterans
Matthew Donegan, Managing Director & Principal
Matt Donegan is a professional forester who began his
career managing forest operations in the southern US.
In the early 1990s, he served as Forest Analyst for
Georgia-Pacific Corporation, whose national timber portfolio
exceeded 6 million acres. Later, at the Hancock Timber
Resource Group Mr. Donegan evaluated prospective acquisitions
in the US, Canada and New Zealand, and oversaw the analysis
of $1.4 billion in timber assets across 17 southern,
western and eastern states. In 1997, he co-founded US
Forest Capital in San Francisco, a financial advisory
firm serving private investors and conservation groups
acquiring forest land.
Mr. Donegan is a member of several conservation groups
including the Nature Conservancy and Trout Unlimited.
He holds a BS in Forestry from the University of Florida
and an MBA with concentrations in Forest Industries
Management and Finance from the University of Tennessee.
Scott Jones, Managing Director & Principal
A professional forester, Scott Jones worked
previously for Container Corporation of America in forest
operations and timber taxation. In 1988, Mr. Jones joined
The John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company and was
instrumental in developing the Hancock Timber Resource
Group. During his ten-year tenure with that organization,
he helped the firm raise and invest nearly $1.6 billion
in nearly 40 transactions throughout North America.
Mr. Jones also served on the firm’s executive
and investment committees. Prior to co-founding Forest
Capital Partners, Mr. Jones was President and CEO of
Timberland Growth Corporation, a timberland REIT joint
venture between Potlatch Corporation and Anderson-Tully
Company.
Mr. Jones holds an undergraduate degree from Elizabethtown
College, a Masters in Forestry from Duke University
and a Masters in Management from the Kellogg School
at Northwestern University.
