Log Quality Supervisor

Responsibilities
Working closely with the Northeast Washington regional staff, log customers and contractors, this position is responsible for ensuring the Company’s harvest operations supply the right log to the right mill. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Proper tree and log merchandising to maximize net revenue
  • Correctly manufactured and sorted logs delivered to the proper customer mill.
    • Monitor daily, weekly, monthly and yearly log deliveries to each log customer guaranteeing customer expectations on log product are met; appropriately allocating time and resources to the largest customers
  • Ensure Forest Capital log products are correctly scaled and accounted for by our log customers
    • Make certain all loads are properly ticketed and marked for adequate load identification
  • Learn and understand the log quality and sorting specifications of each Forest Capital log customer with special emphasis on the largest customers
    • Using Forest Capital’s largest customers design, this position will develop, produce and distribute daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports measuring the performance of the Company’s employees and contractors against the customers’ log quality and sorting standards
  • Educate, train and assist colleagues and logging contractors to properly merchandise trees, manufacture logs and the proper handling and sorting of logs, utilizing log quality and sorting reports to identify and react promptly to sub-standard log deliveries.
    • Monitor the log scaling practices and log scale measurement results (check scale) of customers’ log scalers, as well as, third party log scaling bureaus to be certain Forest Capital logs are correctly measured, loads delivered are correctly accounted for and mill weighing procedures and processes are accurate
  • Ensure that logging utilization standards comply in every respect with Forest Capital’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Obligations

The successful candidate will earn and maintain the trust and loyalty of Forest Capital employees, logging contractors, log customers, business partners, investors and communities in the Inland Region Operating area.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS degree in Forestry or related field.
  • 5-7 years of log scaling experience, preferably with a private sector company.
  • Possess a valid log scaling license from the State of Idaho, Washington or Oregon.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the region working in our customer’s log yards, as well as on Company forestlands with Foresters and logging contractors.
  • Ability to handle and solve confrontational situations with Forest Capital log customers, employees and logging contractors while maintaining confidence and diplomacy.

Reporting Relationships
Will report to the Log Marketing Manager, Northeast Washington Inland Region and will work closely with the Northeast Washington Area Manager and staff and other staff members of Forest Capital.

Location
Colville, Washington. May require occasional travel.
