Senior Accountant

Responsibilities
The role will be responsible for accounting and financial reporting for a family of investments funds and their related holding companies and subsidiaries. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Accounting and Partners Capital Activity

  • Calculate, record and pay quarterly management fees due from funds to the management company
  • Review and assure accuracy of accounting activity processed in field offices
  • Prepare and record all journal entries needed
  • Calculate preferred returns under various partnership agreements
  • Maintain timber depletion schedules
  • Prepare and record monthly expense allocations
  • Responsible for preparation and recording of all land sales activity

Cash Management

  • Monitor and project available cash and propose regular distributions
  • Review staff accountant cash entries and monitor cash balances

Debt Compliance

  • Maintain amortization schedules of any debt owed by funds and management companies
  • Assure debt service payments are made on timely basis
  • Complete calculation of periodic release payments

Financial statements and other reporting

  • Prepare and record quarterly eliminating entries
  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly consolidations of subsidiaries, investments funds, holding companies, and management companies
  • Provide operating and financial information for periodic reporting to investors
  • Assist in developing annual budgets for management companies, funds and related entities
  • Assist in preparation of periodic loan reporting

Audit and tax

  • Provide support needed for year-end audit of management companies, funds and related entities
  • Provide information needed for Tax Manager to prepare tax returns

Other responsibilities

  • Assist with or complete special analyses as they arise
  • Work with other members of the Boston office when an “all-hands on deck” requirement arises
  • Support all necessary and appropriate requirements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®.

Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have an accounting degree and 4-6 years experience, including at least 3-4 years in public accounting. Experience with real estate, inventory, consolidations and partnership structures is ideal, but not required. The successful candidate will have:

  • High degree of intelligence, excellent analytic skills, and ability to complete loosely-defined tasks (i.e., think about all the pieces)
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and strong aptitude for new software applications. Must be able to learn and work effectively with a complex database application that includes both field operations and corporate/fund accounting activity.
  • Ability to understand and work within a complex legal structure with multiple entities and complex inter-relationships.
  • Desire and ability to “own” the process and take responsibility for meeting deadlines and assuring accuracy of reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills – including ability to write and speak clearly
  • Ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment As part of a small office, the individual must also:
  • Work well as a member of a small team both in Boston and other offices
  • Have a “can do” attitude and be willing to do whatever it takes (consistent with the expectations for everyone else in the office)
  • Have a strong work ethic

Integrity, discretion, and respect for confidential information are absolutely essential. Position requires occasional travel within the United States.

Reporting Relationships
Reports to Accounting Manager. Will work closely with other members of the accounting staff (both in Boston and in field offices) and the firm’s partners and CFO.

Location
Boston’s Financial District, near South Station.

Compensation
This is a salaried exempt position. Compensation includes competitive salary plus annual bonus potential. In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefit package which includes medical and dental, 401(k) savings plan, life insurance, and short-term and long-term disability, plus more.
