FORESTER

Forest Capital Partners is looking for a Forester to join our team in our St. Maries, ID office.

Responsibilities

This mid-level position will work closely with the Area Management team, and will assist with all land management and timber harvest related functions within an assigned area of the Idaho Southern Tree Farm Area. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare annual silviculture plans by operation and assists with development of the annual harvest plan.
  • Develop stand level harvesting prescriptions.
  • Prepare annual harvest, silviculture, and road budgets for assigned area.
  • Monitor and maintain road systems. Work with the Area Engineer when appropriate.
  • Administer contract loggers for contract compliance, which includes all Sustainable Forestry Initiatives® (SFI), and Idaho Department of Lands forest practice rules and regulation.
  • Make decisions of a routine nature on a frequent basis; responsible for knowing when to refer issues with significant operational, legal or political consequences to the Area Manager and/or Region Manager.
  • Assist in the administration of all silviculture activities, including tree planting, site prep., PCT, and herbicide applications.
  • Remain current with information technology, logging systems and equipment, silviculture treatments.
  • Assist in managing geographic information systems (GIS) for assigned area which includes using ARC INFO and GPS data recorders.
  • Participate and contribute as a team member within a team environment.
  • Responsible for safe work practices and attitude. Maintain first aid and CPR certificates by participating in Company-sponsored training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in forest management, forest engineering and a minimum of 5 years equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Technically proficient in all areas of resource management.
  • Must effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly adaptive and flexible in dealing with issues with little or no control of conditions.
  • Must have the ability to recognize and address urgent issues and respond with effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Thorough understanding of all applicable operating policies and procedures.
  • Proficient with office software, GPS and GIS mapping applications and basic financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with peers, internal and external customers, suppliers, contractors, conservation groups, lease holders and the general public.
  • Considerable walking during contract administration, quality compliance checking, stand prescription data collection, and other field tasks (35% office and 65% field operations).

Support all necessary and appropriate requirements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI).

Responsibilities

Position reports to the Area Manager, and will work closely with all staff in the St. Maries office and others throughout the firm.
