Matthew W. Donegan, Co-Founder & Co-President
Matt Donegan is co-founder and co-president of Forest Capital Partners. In addition to executive leadership, Matt oversees forest operations, research and technology, environmental policy and investor relations. He is a twenty-year veteran of institutional forest investment with extensive leadership in the areas of forest finance and environmental sustainability.
Matt currently serves as the President of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education, and as a director on the Oregon Education Investment Board. He also serves on the board of the National Alliance of Forest Owners, where he had served as founding Chairman, and on the board of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. He serves on the Oregon Business Council, the Oregon Business Plan Steering Committee, and the children’s council of Big Brothers Big Sisters. He previously served on the Oregon Global Warming Commission, the Oregon Innovation Council, and the national Council of the National Parks Conservation Association.
Matt is a professional forester who graduated from the University of Florida’s School of Forest
Resources and Conservation in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry. He was awarded that
college’s outstanding alumnus of the year in 2009. In 1992 he earned an MBA with concentrations in
forest industries management and finance from the University of Tennessee.
Scott R. Jones, Co-Founder & Co-President
Scott Jones is a co-founder and co-president of Forest Capital Partners, where he leads financial management and administration
as well as forest acquisitions and divestitures, including sales of surplus tracts and conservation easements. Prior to co-founding
Forest Capital Partners, Mr. Jones was President and CEO of Timberland Growth Corporation, a timberland REIT joint venture between
Potlatch Corporation and Anderson-Tully Company. Previously, he led the acquisitions effort at Hancock Timber Resource Group,
where he also served on the firm’s executive and investment committees. Mr. Jones began his career at Container Corporation of
America, working in forest operations and timber taxation. Since then, he has facilitated and completed 44 timberland acquisitions
over the past 30 years, investing over $3.3 billion on behalf of institutional investors.
Mr. Jones is a professional forester and holds an undergraduate degree from Elizabethtown College, a Masters in Forestry from
Duke University and a Masters in Management from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University. He currently serves on the Board of
Directors of the World Forestry Center.
